Course Description

Recommended Prior Learning

At least 10 credits in Level 1 English course and regular school attendance. Students must have shown an ability to work independently. Student entry is at the discretion of the STAR Coordinator. Please discuss with your Dean if you are considering this option. Limited to 10 students.

The Trades Academy works with secondary schools and EIT to provide a trades programme to help students achieve NCEA Levels 2 or 3 and prepare for higher-level of study.S

Students attend one day per week to undertake practical, hands-on training in various trades programmes.  For more specific information on individual programmes please see Mrs Walker.

Automotive -  Level 2 

Automotive - Level 3

Bakery - Level 3

Business Enterprise - Level 2/3

Computer Technician - Level 2

Forestry - Level 2

Hair & Beauty Services - Level 2

Hair & Beauty Services - Level 3

Horticulture - Level 2

Te Toi Whanake - Level 3

Toi Whakairo - Level 2/3

The credits contribute to their NCEA Level 2 or Level 3 Qualificaion. Trades Academy places are limited, and a genuine interest in the trade is necessary for selection.   EIT makes final selection decisions, request and application for WKR as soon as possible to ensure a successful placement.

The College transports Level 2students to and from EIT Taradale, each Friday, at no cost to the students.  Level 3 students will need to provide their own transport to and from EIT on the allocated program day.

Students are able to complete 1 of the GATE OR EIT TRADES ACADEMY or AGRICULTURE ACADEMY
