L1 Textiles Design (L1TXD)

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Miss C. Griffiths.

Overview:

Level 1 Textiles is aimed at developing student’s skills and knowledge in designing and manufacturing a range of garments and textiles products. By generating both practical and theoretical evidence, students will work towards gaining Level 1 credits via industry-based unit standard assessments.

Projects:

1. Dress a Girl Around the World: Learning how to make basic adaptions to a commercial pattern and producing a dress to fit a young girl.

2. Waste Not, Want Not. During this project students will be designing and making a garment made out of old jeans.

Health and Safety and Behaviour Expectations:

All specialist classroom spaces in the Faculty of Creative Industries and Trades are considered hazardous environments. The safety of our staff and students is a priority. As such a high standard of student behaviour is always expected. Students are required to follow all teacher instructions and all health and safety procedures. Students are not permitted to use any equipment without training and the permission of the classroom teacher.

For all specialist class spaces in the Faculty of Creative Industries and Trades:

The minimum following requirements apply at all times:

  • No Jewellery or loose clothing
  • Long hair must be tied back
  • No earbuds or phones

Take Home Project Expenses

Students will be supplied a set amount of materials for their project and the cost for these will be added to the student’s account by the Bursar.

Assessment

All projects and work are assessed. Students will generate a range of assessment evidence through practical work, theory work and teacher observations. The students will then assemble this evidence into work booklet and submit this by the due dates for assessment.

Home Learning

If students are away from school, it is their responsibility to catch up on work missed. All milestones and deadlines will be shared with students via a class on the Microsoft Teams platform. If students do not have access to a device at home, they must see the teacher as access to computers can be arranged for use at break times, and before and after school.
