Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Mrs M. Franklin.
This course offers a holistic approach to Hauora. Students will investigating areas of gender and sexuality in the media, analysis of adolescent health issues and personal safety to understand the influences around them and consequences on Hauora. The learning process will include research skills, critical thinking, attitudes and values within the health curriculum along with rights and responsibilities in relation to the topics covered.
Course Overview
Term 1
Learning about resilience and how people manage change. Interview a resilient person as part of assessment.
Term 2
Investigate issues around gender stereotyping and sexual identity and learning about strategies to address these issues. Complete a report from investigates for the assessment.
Term 3
Prepare for external. Analysis of adolescent health issues/personal safety, understand the influences around this and strategies to address the issues.
Term 4
Revision for exam
Recommended Prior Learning
Have done L1 health is a benefit but not compulsory. Must have achieved Level 1 Literacy to be successful in this course.
Pathway
This course would be an excellent choice for any student who wants to work in the Health Sector and or work in any roll that involves looking after others. Nurse, Physiotherapist, Social Worker, Doctor, Sports Medicine, Therapist, Pharmacist, Medical technician, Paramedic, and Medical assistant.
