11ART Course DescriptionTeacher in Charge: Mrs K. Keir.
Recommended Prior LearningLearners must be prepared to keep up with all tasks. This course caters to both academic and non-academic students, however good time management skills and an ability to think creatively are essential. This course is a pre-requisite to NCEA Level 2 Visual Art.
This course aims for students to:
- Explore, refine, and communicate their own artistic ideas.
- Experiment and develop skills in the use of a range of media and techniques
- Respond to how art expresses identity, culture, ethnicity, ideas, feelings, moods, beliefs, political viewpoints, and personal perspectives.
- Learn how to discern, participate in, and celebrate their own and others' visual worlds.
- Explore themes around identity and belonging, whanaungatanga and tūrangawaewae.
- Provide opportunities for them to express their own ahurea tuakiri (cultural identity).
- Offer an introduction to a range of Visual Arts disciplines to enable them to make informed decisions about which path they will pursue further in NCEA Level 2; whether this be Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture or Painting.
