L3 Police Pathways

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs S. Andersen

A new course for 2022 (numbers dependent) the New Zealand Police have developed an innovative and creative initiative to support the transition of Year 13 students into a career in New Zealand Police.

This Programme aims to provide students with a foundational understanding of real-world knowledge, constructive attributes and positive attitudes associated with Policing in Aotearoa. In addition, the course gives students opportunity to explore physical and leadership requirements of being a police officer.

Topics include:  » The role of Police in contributing to better public services and societal outcomes » History of police within the community » Diversity of policing in the community » Mātauranga Maori and police » Communication » Formal and informal interview strategies » Physical appraisal training and testing » Psychometric testing » Leadership in Police » Emotional Intelligence and policing » Community work- based experiences

Upon successful completion of the Police Pathway Programme, students will receive NCEA Level 3 credits. The year-long course also incorporates the content of the 12-week distance learning course which is a requirement for all RNZPC entrants – meaning that students will not have to complete this separately as part of their Police College application. However, they will still need to meet the other entry requirements.
